In the heart of Louisiana, beneath the shade of the rustling oaks and against the backdrop of an ever-evolving educational landscape, a network of female philanthropists known as the Lagniappe Ladies has been making a significant impact on Louisiana Tech University. This coalition of altruistic alumni and friends stands as a formidable force of generosity, vision, and dedication to an institution that has been a cradle for dreams and ambitions.
Since 2009, the Lagniappe Ladies have been instrumental pillars of progress for Louisiana Tech University. Their collective efforts have resulted in a cumulative total of $1 million in financial contributions, funds that have been meticulously channeled toward enriching and diversifying the university experience. This support has touched many corners of campus life, with a total of 219 projects funded since the group’s inception, enhancing academic departments, technological infrastructures, student organizations, and campus aesthetics.
The concept of ‘Lagniappe’, deeply ingrained in Louisiana culture, refers to the act of giving something extra. The Lagniappe Ladies have embodied this spirit, consistently providing additional support that serves as a catalyst for growth, spurring innovation and offering encouragement that aligns with the university’s mission. They have become custodians of opportunity, ensuring the institution’s multifaceted needs are met with enthusiasm and foresight.
In 2023 alone, the Lagniappe Ladies have made a substantial impact, awarding $98,454.56 to various initiatives. The current membership boasts 91 active members, each contributing her unique perspective, expertise, and resources. This is more than a numerical increase; it is a testament to the group’s growing influence and the collective commitment to the advancement of education.
The sustained investment from this influential network has been a beacon of progress for Louisiana Tech University, enhancing its ability to serve its students and the broader society. Their contributions have been crucial in providing advanced learning environments, sponsoring innovative research, and cultivating a dynamic university community.
The Lagniappe Ladies’ philanthropic model stands as an inspiring example of the power of collective action. It shows that when individuals unite for a common purpose, the potential for making a meaningful difference is limitless. They not only exemplify the strength of community-driven philanthropy but also highlight the importance of nurturing a culture of giving that views education as a vital public good.
Looking to the future, Louisiana Tech University does so with the solid support of the Lagniappe Ladies, whose philanthropy extends far beyond financial contributions. It is a legacy of empowerment, a pathway to the future, and a reiteration of the university’s steadfast motto: “Ever Loyal Be.” The Lagniappe Ladies’ enduring support reveals a profound truth: an institution’s greatest advancements are often woven with the generosity of its community.
Being involved with the work of the Lagniappe Ladies has been exceptionally rewarding for me personally. I have the great honor to see the transformational power of what their gifts mean to our faculty & staff through the funded projects/research/innovation being done on every corner of our campus. And ultimately, our students are the real winners here.
A favorite quote of mine from Margaret Mead says, “Never doubt that a small group of like-minded individuals can change the world; in fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.” The embodiment of this quote is manifested through the work of the Lagniappe Ladies Program. And I’m so very lucky to watch it unfold and play a small part.
