There are golf tournaments, and then there are traditions.
For 68 years, the women of the East Ridge Women’s Golf Association (ERWGA) have cultivated one of Shreveport-Bossier’s most enduring traditions: the East Ridge Women’s Road Runner Invitational. Founded in 1958, the ERWGA was established with a simple yet lasting purpose: to promote the game of golf throughout Shreveport, Bossier City and the surrounding communities. Nearly seven decades later, that mission remains at the heart of everything they do.
Each year, the Road Runner Invitational brings together women who share an appreciation for the game, the competition, and perhaps most importantly, the friendships forged along the way. What began as a local gathering has grown into a tournament with a regional reputation, drawing players from across Texas, Arkansas and Alabama. For these women, the journey to East Ridge is about more than a tee time. It’s about returning to a place where familiar faces are waiting, old friendships are renewed, new ones begin, and the traditions of women’s golf are celebrated as enthusiastically as the competition itself.
There is an unmistakable elegance to a ladies’ golf invitational—the anticipation of the first tee, the laughter between rounds, the spirited competition and the stories shared long after the clubs have been put away. The Road Runner embodies all of it. Over the decades, countless women have walked the fairways of East Ridge, each leaving a small part of her own story behind. Generations of golfers have helped shape the character of ERWGA, creating a legacy that extends well beyond the tournament itself. That legacy may be the greatest measure of the Road Runner’s success.
In an era when traditions can easily fade, the East Ridge Women’s Road Runner Invitational continues to thrive because it represents something timeless: a love of golf and the enduring friendships that grow from it. Sixty-eight years in, the Road Runner remains a celebration of the women who play the game, the communities that support it and the traditions that keep them coming back. The fairways may change with the seasons, but some traditions are worth carrying forward. For the ladies of East Ridge, the Road Runner is one of them.
